Rob, Cynthia received misinformation which I proved that Joseph Malott was not "our" Hiram's father. But starting with Benj F, who is my grandfather. He was born in Little Blue Twp, Jackson, MO in 1859. His wife was Mary Barta. I hadn't found them in Kansas census, but they did live in Washington Co. Kansas then moved to CO before 1903. Benj's father was William Mellott. We found him in the 1860 census in Jackson Co, MO. He had said that Mellott had originally had an "e" on the end of it, but it had been dropped. I found a William Mellotte in the 1850 census in Harmony Twp, Clark Co(?)OH. William was born in OH. Word of mouth had it that Hiram was William's father's name. There is a possiblity that William had brothers named George and James, with James having a son, Winfield.
William was married to Sarah Truax. Their children were Twins: Mary Ellen & Sarah; Lydia; Nancy; & Benj (1850 census). Born after 1860 were Ella, Annie & Ruth. William was shot and killed by "The Bushwackers" in 1867. The home was burned leaving Sarah a widow with 8 children. The 4 older girls were not raised with the 4 younger ones. We have traced Lydia to Indiana where she lived with the Samuel Melicks. I am in contact with her family.
Benjamin & Mary had 1 girl(who died in infancy) and 8 boys, William, Henry(my dad),George, Benjamin Harrison "Harry", Albert Rutherford(Dick), James, Milo, & Arthur. If you can help with anything I will appreciate it. Thanks Darleen
